Who are you? & can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Ifeny. I am a corporate accountant, currently writing my CPA & set to complete and acquire my designation by the end of the year. So basically, I’m an accountant by day & other things when I’m not being an accountant lol.
One of those other things that I am, is the founder of IHWGlobal. I have an immense love for projects and starting things and seeing them become something down the line, which is why I’m also looking to launch another company this year, hopefully.
What exactly is IHWGlobal?
IHWGlobal – It’s Her World Global, is a community organization that launched a year ago with the ultimate aim of ‘creating a world where every woman is empowered’. It’s a community where women are empowered to succeed in their unique lifepaths.
The aim of our organization is to empower women by providing them with the resources they need to succeed in their unique life paths. We focus on the overall woman – the entrepreneur, the corporate woman, the creative woman, the academic etc.
We are a company with almost 2,000 community members across our social media platforms and community networks (IHWGlobal Membership) collectively. I believe we are set to grow exponentially in the coming years, so I’m excited for that.
What inspired you to start IHW Global?
Hmm. I want to say it’s an idea I have had for awhile and seeing women take centre-stage is probably one of the things that gives me the most joy.
I want to create a community for all kinds of women, provide resources where I can and continue to fuel the engine that’ll take women places that we honestly never imagined we will get to.
How did you come up with the name?
I had a couple of options and I had been debating with myself on what to call the company. It’s Her World wasn’t one of the options actually, but then I came up with my ‘tagline’, my ‘it’, which is “creating a world where every woman is empowered” and the next second, “It’s HER World” came to my mind & I knew that was it.
What is your goal of IHWGlobal?
My main goal for IHWGlobal is to create a thriving community, to place women at the centrefold in the media and get women discussing ways that they can do better & be better.
Apart from that, we also discuss women’s issues, so really it’s open to everyone to learn things that they might not have known previously and also get people talking about issues happening in areas that people are oblivious to.
What do you provide to these ladies?
I don’t run It’s Her World completely by myself, I have co-board members, so we are able to provide resources through various avenues, such as live sessions, blog posts, masterclasses, workshops, events etc.
We provide resources catered to the different types of women we mentioned; CV Templates, interview tips for the corporate woman, How To’s and templates for the budding entrepreneurs, Journals for the everyday woman with a vision. We also interview professionals in some subject areas and they give more detailed advice on those areas. So really, we make the resources as well rounded as possible.
Last year we got sponsored to be able to fund two startups in Nigeria, so we’re excited to see them grow and hopefully, more of that in the coming years.
What is your favorite part about running IHWGlobal?
My absolute favourite part about running IHWGlobal is meeting women that are doing great things and also exploring the potential in some of the women I get to interact with almost daily through the platform.
I love that women go away feeling empowered or that we get messages saying something we did or said helped someone in someway. Those things bring me joy so they will definitely be my favourite parts of running the company.
What is your least favorite part about running IHWGlobal?
There is honestly no part about running this company that isn’t appealing or a learning moment for me. I think what I struggled with at first was personally finding a way to juggle it with other things I have going on in my life and maybe also setting a clear direction for where I wanted it to head and making clear plans to get there, but everything is a growth process, so I enjoy it just as much.
How do you spread the word about your company?
I think most of this gets done through Social Media. I mentioned earlier that I work with 6 other members, so we all have various things we do to get the word out about who we are and what we do.
I also try to attend networking events, especially those geared specifically towards women, so I get to meet other women, learn about what they do and tell them what I do as well.
Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?
It surprises me a little when I am referred to as an entrepreneur, haha. I guess my advice to people running businesses of their own will be;
– Manage your time wisely: It’s easier said than done. I think a lot of people even think they are doing this, when really they aren’t, you know. Set schedules, make monthly calendars etc.
– Pray: I guess I’ll advice people that if you’re a praying person, you should pray. Personally, God is my source, so I take that seriously.
– It’s okay to not be ready or to feel unsure: I think starting is the easiest part, but consistency and tenacity will go a long way in taking you where you need to go, even in moments when nothing seems to be going the way you think it should.
– Finally, always show up: You started this company and journey, so if not for anything else, show up for yourself everyday.
How do you sign up for IHW Global, is it online?
Yes, you can join us (or subscribe with us) on our website, www.ihwglobal.com. We’ve actually just rebranded and relaunched our website so it should be easy to find at the bottom of every page. Or shoot us an email and someone will be able to help you.
Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying? ☺
I don’t actually. I think one thing I find myself saying a lot lately to people and occasionally to myself is that every stage in life is a growth opportunity, so treat it as such and you should see that growth manifest. I think that’s very important.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I think this interview will be out just about when our masterclass launch is set to be announced on our site, so I can say this – IHWGlobal is set to launch its first masterclass and it’s going to be on personal finance. Theme of this series is ‘Mastering Her Money Mindset’ & we’re thoroughly excited about that, so be sure to check that out as well as all the latest details we’ll be releasing in the coming months.
And thank you for having me on She’s Fit to Lead. I’m honoured to have been a part of this.
