Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a native Dallasite, and spent most of my career as an event planner for a prominent restaurant group here in Dallas. I come from an entrepreneurial family, so I always knew I wanted to start a business of my own – and luckily, I had many great role models not only in my own family but in the restaurant group, who taught me how to be a leader & self-starter (although I’m still learning every day!)
What exactly is Just Hit Send?
Just Hit Send is an online gift service. We offer ready-to-send gift packages as well as custom options – all curated from unique, artisanal items & brands that are composed into sleek gift boxes. The gifts are designed to be sent for any occasion, and to help people connect with their “special someones”!
What inspired you to start Just Hit Send?
In college (and still to this day) I loved sending “care packages” to my far-away friends when they needed cheering up. I would shop around town for just the right items, wrap them & ship it. At the time, there weren’t options available for that type of gift – the only ready-to-send options were flowers, or a big, ornate gift basket. I later created Just Hit Send as a more modern, upscale version of a “gift basket” (but filled with items people would love to receive!)
How did you come up with the name?
I always knew ecommerce was the way to go – a simple, user-friendly way to send the perfect gift in a few clicks. With that, “Just Hit Send” seemed to say it all!
You give back to OneTreePlanted; can you tell us about that?
I’m a huge proponent of the environment, and never wanted to create a business that would harm it. I realize that shipping isn’t necessarily eco-friendly, so planting trees is a great way to counteract the negative affects it can have! With every gift sold, we donate to One Tree Planted and they’re able to plant trees all over the world, for just $1 each.
What makes you different from other gift boxes out there?
We aim to keep our gifts fun, whimsical & light-hearted – but also full of the items people actually want to give & receive! Our emphasis on organic, eco-friendly & all-natural gift items also sets us apart – we want shoppers to feel greatabout the gifts they are sending!
You were seen on The Today Show; can you tell us about that
Our feature on The Today Show aired the day of our holiday shipping cut-off in 2017 – about 3 days before Christmas. It was a blast getting that type of instant exposure, and seeing the positive reaction to Just Hit Send! We feel very lucky to have had that experience.
What is your favorite part about running Just Hit Send?
I still love designing new gifts, and finding new interesting items to include in them. I get so excited about every new seasonal gift launch!
What is your least favorite part about runningJust Hit Send?
There is a level of uncertainty that comes with running any business (big or small) and it takes some getting used to. Working “for” yourself is certainly rewarding but takes a lot of internal motivation to keep going when you’re often not sure what’s going to happen next!
Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?
I would say be prepared for the ups and downs. If this is your full-time career path, just know it can be a bumpy road but the good times are worth it – cherish them!
Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying? 🙂
It sounds simple but I often think to myself : “Why can’t I?”– If I’m doubting my ability to take a risk, try something new, or do something I see another entrepreneur doing. If I catch myself thinking “I could never do that” – I turn it into “Why can’t I?”and give it a try!
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I would say if you’re creating a product, just make sure it contributes to the greater good of society, the environment, or another purpose or cause. It will make for a more sustainable business in the long-run and give meaning to what you’re creating.
