Dive in Deck: Take a Deep Breath—How Does that Feel?

There are 24 hours in a day.
8 of those hours are spent working.
5 of those hours are spent taking care of errands and family.
3 of those hours are spent completing miscellaneous tasks.
2 of those hours are spent exercising.
1 hour is spent commuting.
And that leaves 5 hours for sleeping, give or take.

Life is hectic, especially when you’re in college, working, and completing other tasks to get you closer to your career and life goals. For most people, the weeks are bursting with stuff that has to be done, and oftentimes, life can become overwhelming as a result.
With so much going on all of the time, it’s incredibly easy to forget why we devote so much time to working and completing tasks that seem so miniscule when looking at the big picture of life. After a few weeks of continuous work and little sleep, people become overly stressed, unhappy, and exhausted. Attitudes, moods, and perspectives suffer as a result, and, eventually, all of the hard work has a negative impact, rather than a positive one.

Turn off the phone and TV, sit down, close your eyes, and breathe.

It may seem silly, as people are continuously breathing, but allowing yourself to sit back and really take a moment to catch your breath is one of the most healing medicines to take advantage of. By giving yourself a moment to focus on breathing, even if only for 5 minutes, you give yourself a chance to remember why you work so hard, why all of your habits and responsibilities are so important, and what your purpose in this world is.

Life is not meant to be easy, and, sometimes, there will be days that feel much more difficult than others. There will be times that feel like all hope is lost and that all of your hard work will not pay off, maybe that it’s more trouble than it’s worth, but do not give up.

Whenever life becomes difficult and situations arise that are more than you can handle, remember to sit back and breathe. Allow the joy and love for life to occupy your mentality and dispel the negativity that seeks to control your life. The world is at your feet, and it is up to you to take advantage of the opportunities that surround you.
