Why I Love Dance

International Dance Day holds a special place in my heart. I have been dancing for 16 years now, and I feel that I have learned so much through this incredible art form. Although it does require much blood, sweat, and tears, the outcome of it is unlike anything else you will ever experience. Here are just a few reasons why I love dance.

It’s an amazing workout
One of the most obvious reasons is that dancing is such great exercise. Dance is way harder than many people think, and it leaves you dripping in sweat, but it is SO much fun and leaves you feeling great and refreshed.

It teaches you to never give up
One thing I have learned the most in my dance career is perseverance. When you fall down, get back up. Dance requires a lot of hope. Hope that you will get the moves down perfect, hope that you will do well in the show, and hope that you will impress the judges. It teaches you to never lose that hope, and that if you work at it hard enough, it will definitely pay off.

Dance is an escape
Dance is a great stress reliever. If you’re angry or upset, dancing away the pain will make you feel 1,000 times better. In fact, these emotions actually make your dancing even better. It gives you confidence and makes you feel free and happy again. It is a good way to get away from life for a little while. Just turn the music on full blast, and dance your heart out.

You make some amazing friends
One of the best parts of my dance career is the people who I met. I grew up with these people. They have seen me at my best and worst. We have seen each other fail miserably, and we are there to pick each other up. I saw these people more than I saw my own family, and they knew me better than anyone else did. The people I met through dance aren’t just my friends; they are family for life.

Overall, dance is a great way of exercise, but it means so much more than that. It gives you hope, self-confidence, and freedom. My dance career is something that has shaped me as a person in so many ways and has changed my life completely. I wouldn’t be who I am today without my love of dance, and, I guarantee, if you try it,  you will feel the same. Don’t be afraid to try. You never know how much you may love it.

Happy International Dance Day to all of my fellow dancers. Go out and dance the day away.
