Meet Jillian Green, founder of the amazing company, Remember Me Green. Have you ever visited Times Square and admired all those enormous billboards? Have you ever imagined they could turn into the most gorgeous, stylish, luxurious handbags? No? Well, read on and be surprised.
What is Remember Me Green?
Our process begins with collecting billboards and bringing them to our Long Island, NY facility where they are hand cut for the best artistic designs. Then, each unique item is cleaned, pressed and sewn right on our premises. Remember Me Green product tags incorporate a scanable QR code so customers can learn more about where their product came from, as well as the direct environmental benefits of supporting RMG.
What was your inspiration for starting the company?
The majority of these billboards were ending up in a landfill after their campaign was over. Billboard campaigns usually change monthly, which means there’s a lot of waste and I knew that all of this vinyl could be put to better use.
How did you get others to buy into your idea? How did you get yourself noticed?
I started sewing samples myself and got great reactions from my friends and family. I received such an enthusiastic response, I knew I was on to something. Everyone who hears about our brand thinks it’s such a great and unique idea, so that really motivated me to keep going.
How do you use Remember Me Green to promote sustainability?
We promote sustainability by exclusively using recycled materials. We also use eco-friendly cleaners to get the vinyl clean after it comes down, and we even use the material that has scratches or undesirable colors for our shipping packages. That way, we try to use everything we have and we don’t have a lot of waste.
What has been the biggest surprise to you in undertaking this venture?
It was a surprise to see how many people really care about helping the environment.
Did your college studies prepare you for what you are doing now? From the perspective of a company founder, would you change anything you did in college if you could go back in time?
Do you have an absolute favorite bag?
We create new bags every day, so my favorite changes almost daily. My favorite style of bags, however, are our Hampton Bags. I like how they’re versatile. They’re perfect to bring to the beach or carry everything around the city.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Creative, optimistic and hardworking because owning a business is not an easy task.
What’s your favorite stress buster?
Where can we buy your line? Do you have trunk shows? Would you come to campus, and, if yes, who should we contact?
The best place to buy our products is on our website, www.remembermegreen.com. We also are on other eco websites and in local boutiques all over Long Island. We are open to coming to campus. Please contact Alanna at Alanna@remembermegreen.com
