The Lovely Ladies Behind Savvy Sisters Media

Can you tell us a little about yourselves?

Hey lovelies, I’m Tara! I currently study Advertising and marketing at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, while working at Savvy Sisters Media, Inc. I have always had a passion for everything fashion and PR. Growing up in the age of digital and social media, i’ve immersed myself in the social world and have made a lifelong career and found my true passion. On the weekends you can find me exploring the streets of NYC looking for the best brunch spots with my friends or at the gym sweating out the work week!

Hi loves, my name is Jamie Levy a student at the University of Delaware majoring in Interpersonal Communications and Minoring in Advertising. I am a huge caffeine addict, yoga loving social media marketer. On the weekends you can find me at the beach with my dog Charlie.

What inspired you to start Savvy Sisters Media?

Two summers ago I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be the Marketing Manager at Soundview Caterers where one of my responsibilities was social media marketing. When I returned to school in the fall I continued managing their social media profiles, it was the ideal part time job for any college student. As I continued with my position, I noticed the high demand for social media management– many business owners don’t have the time or skill set to run social media campaigns themselves. Growing up, Tara and I always dreamed of working together. Last July that dream became a reality when we decided to go for it and start Savvy Sisters Media!

How do you spread the word about your company?

We try to spread the word about Savvy as much as possible, whether it be through social media, word of mouth, article write ups, door-to-door pitching, and more. We are eager to share the word about our company in any way possible! We are always looking for new features, collaborations, clients and just networking connections.

Being a young entrepreneur do you ever feel that you are not taken as seriously as you should be?

We have certainly encountered people who diminished our abilities, but that’s never stopped us. Instead, we use that as motivation to work harder and make ourselves the best we can be.

Many people have laughed at us along the way and tried to take advantage of a “clueless start up”. Luckily after a few encounters that went south, we learned to trust our gut.

This month you are celebrating one year of the founding of Savvy Sisters, (congratulations!) Can you share with us a success story that you have had?

As you can imagine, starting a business can have many bumps along the way. However, one of our greatest accomplishments was being a sponsor of TedX Dover. As a result of this we were able to attend Firefly music festival and meet inspirational speakers, we are so grateful to have had that opportunity. This sponsorship deal has opened many doors for potential clients, business opportunities and networking connections. Being able to promote Savvy Sisters Media, Inc. on such a large scale has opened our eyes to the endless possibilities the world offers us.

With social media always changing, what is one thing that you guys each believe is important part to “keep up” with?

Research, research, research. Some of my favorite social media gurus I follow to get the inside scoop are: Gary Vaynerchuk, Social Media Examiner & Buffer Social also some great Websites to Follow: Girl Boss, The Everygirl & Glitter Guide

Social media algorithms are always changing, which can affect your social business platforms, so making sure you’re aware of the constant changes and how to use them most effectively to your brand is key. Trends are also always evolving and forming, so staying ahead of the current trends will allow you and your brand to stand out ahead of the competition.

What is on the rise for Savvy Sisters media?

We have many exciting projects ahead of us! Most recent on the radar is a Savvy Strategy Newsletter, stay tune on IG for details!

Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying?

Do you have any advice for young entrepreneurs?

Don’t be afraid to go after what you want. Nothing is going to come to you if you don’t get off your ass and work for it! Even if you don’t succeed, you tried and can now improve for the next time. Everything you do is a stepping stone to the goals you are trying to achieve, so never give up.

Take advantage of all the resources available to you. You never know what opportunities await. Remember to stay curious and true to yourself throughout your career.
