We’re always so impressed when we hear about someone who is still in high school and running a business. For most of us, it sounds impossible. However, Rachel Tieman is a living example of how an entrepreneurial spirit makes anything possible! Tieman, CEO and Founder of Rachel Tees, is building her customizable clothing brand, supporting a number of charitable causes and of course living the high school life as well. We think she’s pretty WOW!! Check her out below and on Instagram @rachel.tees and @racheltiem
What exactly is Rachel Tees?
Rachel Tees is a business I started for which I create customizable clothing, certain styles have a charitable component.
Where did you get the idea for Rachel Tees?
I saw a tee shirt at a well known store (you know, the one with the ridiculous sales twice a year), and I said “ I can do that!”. They charged over $100, and I knew could create it for less. I took a sewing/fashion class in school so I had an idea of what I was doing. I posted an Instagram and had a really great response.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get inspiration from current styles, anything that I would want to wear. I see what stores are selling and if I can make it, I will!
What was it like to start a business?
I felt insecure and that people were going to judge me, like I was going to get made fun of. But my sisters, who I look up to, both pushed me to start up an Instagram.
What was your business breakthrough moment?
I’m still in the beginning phase of building my brand, but seeing pictures of my shirts at college football games was amazing.
What is the best part of running Rachel Tees?
Seeing customers happy with their shirts is definitely the best part.
What is the hardest part of running Rachel Tees?
It’s hard to manage school work while creating new styles because it takes so much time to perfect a new look.
We heard you are starting to donate some of your profits to charity. What inspired you to do that?
I’ve always wanted to create something that benefits other people. I never had the right product. I’ve toyed with bracelets, pillow cases, and so much more. When I began making my shirts, it clicked that this was the perfect way to combine a business with a service project.
What charities are you involved with?
Right now on the Clothes For Change line, the charities are the local animal shelter and St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a young woman wanting to start her own business?
Like Nike says, JUST DO IT! Don’t worry what others think and do what makes you happy.
What is your favorite tee you have made?
My favorites are actually the bralettes I make. The blue bandana is pictured below. They are amazing. I size them out so they fit perfectly and they look great under anything.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you have with you?
Netflix, Zac Efron, and sun tan lotion because I burn easily. Haha
What do you do for fun?
I’m an actress so lots of auditioning! I also like to go to the gym, watch hockey, and shop!!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Dessert. I can live on chocolate, cupcakes, icing, or anything coconut flavored.
What is your current binge watch?
ONE. TREE. HILL. I’m a little late to the party, I know. But, now I’m obsessed and in love. Where is my Nathan Scott!!!???
Describe yourself in one word.
How would your best friends describe?
Funny, energetic, outgoing, and loyal.
