Who are you? & Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Shaun Hng, founder and designer of Popvibe jewelry. Before creating Popvibe I’ve always been in the fashion retail industry. The last corporate position I held was the head of Visual Merchandising for Saint Laurent Paris in China.
I’m married and an animal lover & can’t live without my beagle and schnauzer. I speak 5 languages and lived in Malaysia, Thailand, China and now United States.
What exactly is Popvibe?
Popvibe is a new small company creating jewelry that can do more. We work with the energy of crystal healing to help our clients live better, both mentally and physically.
What inspired you to start Popvibe?
I have always believed in the power of healing from crystals and was looking for a bracelet that’s simple & modern to fit with my active lifestyle. As someone who is inspired by fashion and found that most designs out there are either too “kum-ba-ya” or outrageously priced, I decided to design bracelets for myself and subsequently my friends and family. As a result I ended up planning Popvibe last winter.
How did you come up with the name?
I was looking for a name that’s modern and fun and the name kind of explains itself on the intention to create jewelry that can bring a Pop of positive Vibe for everyone that wears it.
With every bracelet you donate to a nonprofit organization, can you tell us about that?
When I started the company I’d always wanted to work with charitable organizations that connect with what we are selling and our clients. That’s why we decided to work with different causes with every item. Example, our best selling Money Bracelet has the goal of helping our clients achieve financial success and is linked with Ali Forney Center, an organization providing LGBTQ young people housing and continuum of support services to help them thrive and prepare them for independent living. The best part is when someone buys a bracelet for wealth he/she is actually helping a less fortunate person.
Is there a favorite product?
That’s a trick question! We love the entire product line. But, currently I’ve been wearing our Matte Black & Gold combo with Lava Beads for courage, Jasper for inner strength and Hematite for overall balance. Recently we started using a lot of Hematite Crystals because they hold properties of a very humble, grounded and balanced energy; however, in contrast they are shiny, bold and have a similar aesthetic to a metallic jewelry.
What is your favorite part about running Popvibe?
My favorite part is when we’re making and preparing an order to ship. Not because of the sales but when Popvibe ships an item we always cleanse it with sage while using a visualizing technique to infuse the crystals with positive energy. We are practically sending love to every client.
What is your least favorite part about running Popvibe?
Another trick question! Well I think the boring part like organizing our financial records.
How do you spread the word about your company?
We are working with an ad agency on social media marketing, advertising and Google ads. Other than that, our clients are our best advocates.
Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?
If you are following your passion then just do it. Don’t overthink it, start small and learn everyday. I think new owners tend to try to create the perfect company with heavy investment to cover all areas in the beginning. But, there’s no such thing as a perfect company, we all just need to learn and improve everyday. It’s a long-term process but it’s worth it as long as you love what you doing. Also, be honest with your weaknesses and don’t hesitate to ask for help. If your readers need help they are always welcome to get in touch with me.
Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying? 🙂
Yes, a quote from Jane Fonda from her recent documentary: “We are constantly trying to be perfect but to be perfect is also to accept and embrace our shadows. We’ve just got to say good enough is good enough.”
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
We are currently working on some really exciting imagery for the upcoming holiday season and a new fun product lineup for Spring. We hope your readers will love it, follow and visit Popvibe.
