Introducting The Waverly Project

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a 30 year old small business owner who loves people, art, fashion and traveling! I majored in art history, entered fashion for a few years and then decided to open my own creative studio; a safe place for girls to get inspired, try millions of creative projects and learn about cultures from all around the world! I am obsessed with horses and dogs, good gospel music feeds my soul, I collect chairs and cool hats, Christmas is my favorite time of year and I loveeeee chicken parm. I am super close to my family ( I live with my brother and sister) and decorating is my hobby and favorite, favorite past time.

What exactly is The Waverly Project?

TWP is a studio space that hosts events for girls empowering them to connect with their passions through inspired DIY & cultural conversations.

What inspired you to start The Waverly Project?

I am super creative and passionate about mentoring. I have had amazing mentors in my life and wanted to create a space that provides mentoring and hands on creative projects. It is SO important to experience different things from a young age, it helps you develop confidence, know who you are and focus on interests original to YOU!

What is your favorite part about running The Waverly Project?

Meeting new people. I love collaborating, hearing other women’s stories and connecting them to the younger generation. Mentors are key in pursing your passions; they affirm you, encourage you and inspire you! Girls today need, more than ever, mentors as the world is over stimulated with distractions and false truths.

Stay Fit and Healthy

What is your least favorite part about running The Waverly Project?

Paperwork. I really do not enjoy administrative work. I am a hand’s on, executer and creating excel sheets, organizing client folders etc. kills me!

Can you tell us a little about your workshops and what they cover?

Every week girls stamp their passports, “travel” to a new country, learn about that country, try foods from that country & do a DIY inspired by that country. For example: Last week girls traveled to France, studied Coco Chanel, her role in fashion and how she re-invented the neck scarf. Girls snacked on macaroons, made macaroon clay necklaces and designed neck scarves! Super chic!

This fall you guys are branching out into the colleges can you tell us what is on the rise for that?

We are building a college tour called Girl Class! These workshops will focus on three things: A journal / diary that is full of relevant conversations and topics to talk about / create vision boards empowering girls to believe in their dreams and goals / connect college girls to mentors and leaders that are relevant to their interests! We are rolling this out spring 2018! SUPER EXCITING!

How do you spread the word about your company?

Word of mouth and social media. It is a unique workshop that is still developing, and I really care about taking my time. I really believe wonderful things grow slowly and in order to make an exceptional product, you must let it develop organically.

Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying?

“People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people with never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou  – I use this as a guide, if it doesn’t make the person feel good, don’t do it or say it.

Do you have any advice for young entrepreneurs?

Surround yourself with positive mentors, not tons, just a few good ones. Be patient and know that slow and steady does win the race, no matter what. Be ok with evolving plans and be open to changing your product as long as it complies with your original mission and vision!
