Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! My name is Sydney Marie Morrison. I was born and raised in South Louisiana. I have a love for great food and football– well, lets be honest, I just like dressing up in my purple and gold! In 2015, I graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Graphic Design. Since graduation I have been making my way in the ‘adult’ world, working as a full time graphic designer. As a creative outlet, I began Sydney Marie Style and Co. and I have been very grateful for the opportunities God has provided through this new venture.
What exactly is Sydneymarie_styleandco?
What inspired you to start Sydneymarie_styleandco?
SydneyMarie Style + Co. was originally founded in honor of my mom to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. My hope is that it also encourages and inspires women through both art and style.
How did you come up with the name?
Well, obviously Sydney Marie represent my first and middle names, but as for Style and Company, I am a graphic designer, but I also have a love for fashion, cooking, travel, etc. I believe Style + Company best represents my brand and what I post. It’s a little bit of everything I love.
Where are your products sold? Are they sold in stores?
I am currently located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Some of my products are available in local stores and boutiques, but my products are also currently available through my Instagram account as well as my website!
What is your favorite part about running Sydneymarie_styleandco?
I love utilizing my artistic talents to benefit others. Graphic design has given me the ability to serve God through artistic avenues I enjoy. For example, my graphic design skills gave me an opportunity to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims in a big way. There has been tremendous joy and purpose found in these opportunities that running SydneyMarie Style + Company has afforded.
Some of your proceeds go to The National MS Society, can you tell us about that?
When establishing my company I wanted to give a portion of my proceeds to a cause that hits close to home. My mom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012. She is an inspirational human and has overcome a great deal. Even with a diagnosis like MS, my mom has continued to work diligently for the students of her school district both in and out of the classroom. Due to my love for her, I want to be a part of ending this disease and SydneyMarie Style + Co. allows me to do just that.
Is there a favorite product?
T-shirts! I love designing them. Most of the time I envision a design in my head, and I go straight to my computer to create it! This past September I was able to raise thousands of dollars for the flood relief cause through my ‘Hurricane Harvey Texas Strong ‘ t-shirts. All proceeds have gone to the Samaritan’s Purse-Hurricane Harvey Texas Flood Relief. I also have a love for designing wedding invitations!
How do you spread the word about your company?
Social media mostly, but I have been blessed with a pretty amazing support base here in my hometown of Baton Rouge who spread the word about my products.
Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?
My favorite quote is from Emeril Lagasse, “Life just doesn’t hand you things. You have to get out there and make things happen, that is the exciting part.” The world needs more go-getters and humans working for the good of others. It is exciting and nerve racking all at the same time to put your work out there, but you will never know if it can be a success unless you actually go for it!
Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying?
I came across this poem by Erin Hanson once and have reminded myself of its words again and again as it represents the hope and beauty of life.
“Life is unpredictable. It changes with the seasons. Even the coldest winter, happens for the best of reasons. And though it feels eternal, like all you’ll ever do is freeze, I promise spring is coming, and with it brand new leaves.”
