Interview Do’s and Don’ts

job_interviewCongratulations! You’ve landed the interview. You’re in the right mindset and ready to go. But before you step foot out the door make sure you keep in mind the essential interview basics.

These may seem pretty obvious but many candidates shoot themselves in the foot by making simple mistakes.

staceylondongiphy-Dress like a professional even if the office attire is casual. The old saying dress for the job you want is very true. If you’re interviewing in a young or creative environment feel free to add some extra flare but again keep it professional.

you'relategiphy-Arrive five to ten minutes early. Punctuality is key to a good first impression and will give you a chance to catch your breath and get into the right mindset.

tim-chews-gum-o-Maintain a professional demeanor. Greet the interviewer politely. Have a firm handshake. Sit up straight. Don’t chew gum. Put your phone on vibrate.

Leave the valley girl tone at the door and try not to say “um” or “like.” Any of these mannerisms will make a poor impression.

-Treat a Skype interview the same as an in-person interview. In addition to the above tips make sure there is no background noise.

Now go get ‘em!
