What are HipZips?

HipZips are the new tailgating necessity! They are college designed fanny packs made especially for tailgating hands-free.

How did you get the idea for HipZips?

I got the idea for HipZips when I went to visit my brother last year at Indiana University. He took me to a tailgate, with my phone in one hand and some money in the other; I was constantly worried that I was going to lose something. If only I had a HipZips, that would have solved all my problems!

Where do you get your inspiration?

I am constantly doodling on everything. Any piece of paper handed to me most likely results in a colorful mandala with several hearts and peace signs. My inspiration for HipZips came from one of my doodles.

What is your favorite part of running HipZips?

I am constantly learning about running a business from the design all the way to the end product; however, it is safe to say that my favorite part of running HipZips is hearing back from happy customers.Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 8.29.05 AM

What is the hardest part of running HipZips?

The hardest part of running HipZips is coordinating all the necessary steps to take place in a timely fashion. In the beginning, it was a bit overwhelming, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it. At least for now!

What was your business breakthrough moment?

Originally, I placed an order for only one school (Indiana) as a trial. My breakthrough moment was when I received the next order of 8 schools. I was so excited to see them and they looked great!

How do you make your fanny packs?

I come up with the designs by doodling and then edit them on a computer program. I then send my designs to the company producing my fanny packs. When they arrive to me, I take them to a tailor to have a patch sewn on each one. Lastly, I attach some HipZips labels and they are ready to ship!

My favorite tailgate look is a simple look, but decked out in school spirit. My favorite fanny pack is Indiana, duh!

What is next? What are you dreams for HipZips?

My dream for HipZips is to expand it by creating more college HipZips and reaching out to other communities such as sports teams, camps, and other organizations.

How old were you when started HipZips?

I was 17 years old when I started HipZips.

What was it like to start a business?

It was exciting, overwhelming, and challenging, yet very rewarding.

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

I am an incoming freshman at Indiana University. I plan on studying marketing in the Kelley School of Business.

What is your current binge watch?

I am rewatching Gossip Girl; it will always be my all-time favorite!Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 8.32.08 AM
