Read Up. Learn Up. Boss Up. #Girlboss

You know those books and shows that you always hear about, you’re sure you’re going to enjoy, but for some reason never get around to actually starting? Hopefully, you know what I’m getting at because I have a long long list of them. Anyways, while I was running through the airport to my six-hour flight on a long journey home, I realized I had nothing to do on this flight. So, of course, I ran into the only store I could see and bought the only book I recognized, “#Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso. I never expected that spending money at an overpriced airport store would be a blessing in disguise, especially after running through the airport like a lunatic, but I am so glad I finally picked this book up.

Amoruso uses a great mix of personal stories and applicable advice that make this book, in my mind, one of the greatest business books. Amoruso, as most people know, is the founder and former CEO of Nasty Gal, who turned an online eBay store into a multi-million dollar company in just a few short years. She is incredibly real in her writing, with sections such as, “Credit Cards Blow,” where she states, “…it wasn’t by choice that I built the company debt-free. It simply wasn’t an option because no one would even give me a credit card, never mind a business loan.”

I can’t recommend this book enough, and, trust me, I’ve recommended it a ton. It feels like you’re reading another book with an author sharing her story in a lighthearted way until you reach the end and realize you’ve read a business book. “#Girlboss” gives real world advice for those who are business-minded, as well as those who are simply looking to enter a career. And she does it all with a true, badass #Girlboss attitude.

As Amoruso said in her book, “We don’t need people who just have ideas; we need people who can also execute them. If you’ve made some shit happen, make sure your resume reflects that – this is one of the few places where it’s actually good to brag big.”
