“Feel Beautiful and Exude Confidence.” Welcome To The Fit List Ramy Brook Sharp by Paige Philipps

Meet Ramy Brook Sharp, founder of Ramy Brook.  Ramy Brook is a contemporary women’s wear brand designed for a woman by a woman. Through its signature use of silk fabrics, lively colors, and sophisticated silhouettes, the collection is meant to be a day to night solution in a woman’s wardrobe. Ramy’s designs are inspired by the alluring, strong women she has admired through her life (which of course we at SFTL love!) who demand a timeless, elegant and versatile wardrobe. The designs evoke an uplifting, happy, and playful attitude, all while highlighting the sexiness and confidence of the woman who wears it.  After four years of designing the ready-to-wear collection and a successful collaboration with SoulCycle, Ramy introduced her first ath-leisure line, Après Ramy Brook, in 2015. Ramy’s vision of redefining everyday luxury to fit the needs of a woman’s active lifestyle has given the brand a sophisticated and urban edge.   We’re sure you’ve seen Ramy’s creations.  The brand has a loyal following, with devotees from Julianna Marguiles, and Kate Beckinsale to Alyssa Milano and Lisa Edelstein. The collection has been featured in Glamour, Instyle, Allure, People Style Watch, Fitness, Women’s Health, and Women’s Wear Daily, and is available in major retail and high-end specialty stores worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales, as well as the free-standing Ramy Brook boutique in Soho, New York City and RamyBrook.com.  Ramy lives in New York City with her husband Rob, sons Kyle and Dylan, daughter Stevie and Golden-Doodle, Baxter.“My vision is for women who wear Ramy Brook to feel beautiful and exude confidence, knowing they are sexy, wearing something special, and looking their absolute best.”

Ramy, we are thrilled to welcome you to our Fit List!

1.  One of your goals is for women who wear your clothing to feel beautiful and confident.  How do you evoke that look/feeling while staying on trend?
unnamed-3Ramy Brook clothing is made to make women feel happy, sexy and confident. We work with a lot of solid colors which makes it a canvas for your accessories. We design various necklines and silhouettes so women have choices. It’s not about being trendy, although we are on trend, it’s about wearing clothes that make you feel good, confident and happy.
2.  What is the most important thing you consider while designing an article of clothing for your line?IMG_9744
Most often designs are dictated by the season. We design for the modern woman in the real world.  Whether she goes to work, a party, dinner, or her kids soccer game – we understand her lifestyle and need for clothing that is versatile and works into her already existing wardrobe.
3. Today, a lot of  girls feel as though a crop top or low cut top is a way to dress “hot.”   What would you tell a college girl is the most appropriate way to achieve that “hot” look while staying stylish and classic?
Contrary to what many of us think, crop tops are actually one of the most flattering summer pieces you can choose, because they draw the eye to the thinnest part of pretty much every woman’s body:  Whether you’re long and lean, fit and trim, or pear-shaped and curvy, there’s a way for you to wear crop tops. There’s a time and a place for a low cut dress. So long as you know the right time and place, you can wear these daring dresses without worry. Still, if looking sophisticated is important to you, there is a point where low becomes too low  There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of cleavage, but too much cleavage can send the wrong message, look tacky, and even make a woman look like she’s trying way too hard to get some attention.
_64Y70664. What would your top 5 suggestions be for someone who wants to be in the fashion industry?
One of my suggestions before numbering what you should do – is be passionate
1. Work in a retail store.
2. Determine your strength — marketing, sales, design, etc…
3. Intern at a fashion house.
4. Take a class about retail math and maybe enhance your computer skills.
5. Know the market and the customer.
5.  When you design who inspires you? Is there a type of women/ girl?
Strong women inspire me. I design for all women –  from 18-80 and everything in between.
6.  How did you get into the business of fashion?
I couldn’t find a sexy top to wear with jeans, so I decided to make my own.
unnamed7. She’s Fit to Lead is all about networking confidence.  What’s your best confidence building advice?
Trust your instincts and never let someone tell you that you cannot do it.  How do you know you cannot do it if you do not try?  And It’s ok to fail– learn through your mistakes and if you can find a mentor, learn from their mistakes. You have to make mistakes to remind yourself not to repeat them
8.  When you hire people in your design area, what do you look for?
Creativity, passion, strategy and experience. We work with a lot of silks and wovens so their experience needs to convey their abilities.
9. What do you think makes a great designer of today do be able to be a part of fashion history like a Coco Chanel or a Christian Dior?
unnamed-1For me, great designers understand the women they are designing for. They understand the many facets of a women’s life and design into it. For Ramy Brook, it was a true need in my own closet for sexy tops. I had a lot of jeans and could never figure out what to wear with them besides a tee-shit, etc.  I felt there was a white space for lifestyle dressing. We’ve taken that DNA and built a brand around it. What makes us special is our clothing is genuine and authentic made for “real” multi-tasking, fabulous, modern women!
10.  We know you are fit to lead!  What is your definition of being that leader?
Unfortunately, leadership doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all definition. We all have our own ideas about what it means to be a good leader. For example, some people think leadership means guiding others to complete a particular task, while others believe it means motivating the members of your team to be their best selves. But while the definitions may vary, the general sentiments remain the same: leaders are people who know how to achieve goals and inspire people along the way.  A leader is a person who has a vision and knows how to listen, is ambitious and committed to achieve that vision, and has the skills to make it happen.
Thank you Ramy for your great advice!
