Brownie Batter Smoothie Bowl by Melanie Kinnan

brownie batter 1This smoothie is a game changer. I’m not kidding when I called it a “Brownie Batter” smoothie bowl. It literally tastes like a brownie in smoothie form. Growing up, my mom used to make the best fudgey and chocolatey brownies with coconut, pecans, and extra chocolate chips on top. Despite that I am now gluten free and try to avoid refined sugars and saturated fats, I still crave those brownies, so I would definitely say that my mom’s brownies are the source of inspiration for this recipe.

If you are a (dark) chocaholic, then I promise that you will love this smoothie bowl- it’s rich, creamy, and dreamy. And the best part? It’s made with all whole ingredients and no refined sugars! Boom. You may be skeptical about the addition of black beans to this recipe, but I’m telling you, they are what make this recipe, plus they add extra protein and fiber. You can’t lose! But anyways, I will let the pictures and the recipe speak for itself. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do =)

  • 1 1/2 sliced and frozen bananas
  • 1 TBS  almond butter
  • 1 TBS hemp seeds
  • 1/2 cup black beans
  • 1/4 cup plain, nonfat greek yogurt
  • 2 dates (soaked for at least 10 minutes)
  • 2 heaping TBS of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • Unsweetened coconut and chopped dark chocolate for topping



Place all ingredients except the coconut and dark chocolate in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Garnish with coconut and dark chocolate or any other desired topping.
