Why We Need To End Boyfriend (Or Lack Thereof) Shaming by Isabelle Morris

A lot of girls come into college with a mindset that they just want to have fun.

They may have been settled down in high school, or they may simple want to just let loose in college. And that’s okay. Everyone is entitled to have fun, and everyone should celebrate goingtocollegegiphythemselves the way they want to.

And then there are the girls who come into college with a boyfriend (me, hi!). And while for me, fun doesn’t necessarily mean dancing on top of tables and ending the night with a guy, I still like to enjoy myself with friends and go out.

i have a boyfriendSo why is it that some of us women feel the need to bring each other down for one reason or another?  It’s almost become a lose-lose situation. If you don’t have a boyfriend, people can label you as promiscuous, wild, disrespectful, and cheap. If you do have a boyfriend, you’ll often be called a grandma, boring, or buzzkill.

noboyfriendgiphyWe girls need to bring each other up, not bring each other down. We need to realize relationship choices are a personal subject, and no one is entitled to judge. And more than anything, we just need to enjoy each other’s company without looking too far into it.

About Isabelle Morris

Hi! My name is Isabelle Morris and I’m from a small town on the Jersey Shore. I’m a senior at the University of Miami and I couldn’t be happier to live in one of the most beautiful cities on earth. I’m obsessed with all things miniature (mostly puppies and babies) and need to eat penne a la vodka at least three times a week. Aside from eating and stopping all people who are walking a dog, I love running, reading, being with my boyfriend and friends, talking to my mom on the phone for hours on end, the beach (definitely a Miami perk) and doing anything and everything outdoors.
