Who are you? & can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Hannah Hamblen. I am an Aggie Catholic mother of two who bakes a batch of chocolate chip cookies once a week (basically for myself). I love to travel, even though I don’t get to go much now since the kiddos. I’ve traveled Europe three times now, probably about 8 months total from all three trips. I can be found in the Chick-fil-A drive-thru at least twice a week. My go to store is Target. I sing my kids “Honey Honey” from Mamma Mia and “La Vie en Rose” when they’re sad or sleepy. I despise washing dishes and love to garden.
What exactly is Beau Cheri?
Beau Cheri is my Etsy shop where I sell hand lettered cards and canvases.
What inspired you to start Beau Cheri?
I had just gotten married, and we were moving to Colorado for my husband’s job. I quit my job as a cruise consultant, and then we found out we were pregnant, so I thought how I could still have work to do, but also be a stay at home mom for my kids. I have always loved to letter, even before it was trendy. I remember people asking me to paint the high school banners and such, and I would ask, “What font do you want it in?” So I took the plunge and put my art out there for people to buy, and surprisingly, they did!
How did you come up with the name?
Aside from making a little more income for my growing family, I also wanted to have a way to make money to give back. One thing that is and was on my heart was helping end human trafficking, and even though I would love to break down some doors and rescue kids, that’s not in my calling at least for now. So I thought I could give financially to an institution that helps. I chose gozoe.org. I give 25% of my profits to them. The name means “Beautiful Darling” to honor those victims who have gone through hell, but are still beautiful to God and to us because he makes all things new. It is in the masculine form of French though to also remember my darling husband.
You help stop human trafficking, can you tell us about that?
I guess I kinda did in the question before to explain the name haha^
Is there a favorite card/quote?
I love the Song of Songs wedding cards, but no one buys them lol. I do also really enjoy the custom cards and canvases. I like everyone’s creative ideas and how these messages are so personal and make the occasion even more special. Basic messages can’t apply to everyone and every situation. I also like to be challenged to create new designs constantly, keeps me on my toes.
What is your favorite part about running Beau Cheri?
My favorite part is getting to recharge by creating. When I get to sit down in my studio and focus on making something, it really helps my spirit. It gets hard being a stay at home mom, so having a creative outlet with a deadline helps!
What is your least favorite part about running Beau Cheri?
Packaging. I love the creating, but packaging can be a drag.
How do you spread the word about your company?
I talk about it occasionally, but honestly I don’t really. I like to just be found on the Etsy waves.
Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?
My advice is- just do it!!! Take the plunge. If you fail, learn from it. My products at the beginning were horrible- haha! It’s a learning process.
Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying? :)
“Verso l’alto” – Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. It means upward. I like it because we all fail, hurt, etc, but keep looking upward.
