With Valentine’s Day coming up, I know a lot of college girls approach this holiday with gloomy attitudes. Many girls who are left without valentines view the day as a stupid holiday, leaving them with nothing to do but drown themselves in a box of chocolate and wine that they bought themselves. But they’re so wrong! Whether we have a valentine or not, we completely forget to love the most important person we have in our lives-ourselves!
You are your biggest fan. You are always there for yourself, and you are amazing. You need to make sure you get the love you deserve. I don’t mean love from a friend, boyfriend, parent, or sibling. I mean love from you. Everyone must realize that they should love themselves and shouldn’t depend on receiving that love from anyone else.
I’m well aware of the flaws that I have, and I know I’m not perfect. However, I am also well aware of the good parts of me-the unique parts that make me who I am, and I love myself for them. Girls get so wrapped up in the sorrow they feel when they don’t have a special someone to celebrate Valentine’s Day with. There is a special someone, and that is you. Treat yourself to a spa treatment, a manicure, a really nice dinner. Celebrate yourself because you deserve to be celebrated.
Forget about the boys that don’t think you’re great. Forget about the boys that have screwed you over. Forget about the boys that have left you drunkenly crying in the middle of the street. I know a lot of you are probably regretting all of the one-night-stands or random hook-ups you have listed on your phone from this semester, because you just wish for that special one person for this day. But don’t. It’s not worth it, they’re not worth it, and you’re cashmere sweater that you’ll use to wipe your tears is definitely not worth it.
You are great, and you owe it to yourself to be treated that way. Besides, if you don’t have the ability to love yourself then it’ll be very hard for someone else to love you.
So, if you’re one of those girls that think they don’t have a valentine for this year, think again. You do. And it’s you! There’s no better person to love and spend the day celebrating with than yourself. You rock, and you should have the best Valentine’s Day ever.
