Anchor Beads – Handmade Jewelry

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Amber Godwin, and I’ve been married to my husband Preston, for almost 14 years.  We live in Greenville, NC and have 3 beautiful girls. Georgia, Sailor 7 ½, and Ruthie 23 months old.  Georgia, our oldest daughter, was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was 6 years old. She battled for 19 months, and earned her angel wings in December 2015.

What exactly is Anchor Beads?

Anchor Beads is a jewelry line consisting of necklaces and bracelets for adults and children.  The jewelry features globally sourced beads, mixed with other natural materials such as coconut wood, deer antler, horse hair, brass pendants and more.

What inspired you to start Anchor Beads?

When my daughter Georgia was battling Leukemia, we began to make jewelry as a hobby which also was very therapeutic for both of us!  This hobby lead me to creating a way to give back to childhood cancer research.  A few months after losing Georgia in December 2015, I officially launched the Anchor Beads website, and have been able to continue making jewelry in her memory.

How did you come up with the name?

The name “Anchor Beads” was created from our family’s favorite Bible verse that we have clung to since Georgia’s diagnosis:  Hope Anchors the Soul, Firm and Secure. Hewbrews 6:19.

You donate 10% to childhood cancer research; can you tell us about that?

Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of children in the US.  1 in 5 kids won’t survive.  After losing my daughter to cancer, I will never stop donating and supporting the efforts to help fund childhood cancer research until there’s a cure!

Is there a favorite product?

This is a hard question, because I clearly love them all…  But if I had to choose, I would say that my favorite necklaces are the Antler and Elk Burr’s.

What is your favorite part about running Anchor Beads?

Without a doubt, my favorite part of running Anchor Beads, is designing the necklaces!

Stay Fit and Healthy

What is your least favorite part about running Anchor Beads?

Hands down, my least favorite part about running Anchor Beads is the accounting and bookkeeping.  Prior to Anchor Beads, I was an Accountant for 13 years, so I am thankful I have the knowledge to run my business.

How do you spread the word about your company?

The best way I market Anchor Beads, is through Instagram, Facebook, product donations to organizations that align with my mission of helping childhood cancer, and of course through my website.

Do you have any advice for fellow entrepreneurs?

My advice for fellow entrepreneurs would be to follow your heart and to do something you are passionate about.  I regret all the years I spent doing my mundane job behind an office desk.  For me, it took losing my daughter to realize that life is short on the Earth, so I want to make every day count and have purpose!

Do you have a favorite quote or go to saying? :)

Of course, my favorite Bible verse is “Hope anchors the soul.” Hebrews 6:19
